The Perfect Example
The most ubiquitous stateless environment is the World Wide Web. The HTTP protocol, which is the communications vehicle for Web transactions, is stateless. After a Web page is delivered to the user, the connection is closed. Counter measures, such as the use of cookies, have been developed to maintain the state of a user moving from page to page on a Web site. Contrast with "stateful," which means that continuity is maintained from session to session. See HTTP and cookie.

- Consistency Verification of Stateful Firewalls Is Not Harder Than the Stateless Case
- Firewalls play an important role in the enforcement of access control policies in contemporary networks. However, firewalls are effective only if they are configured correctly such that their access control rules are consistent and the firewall indeed implements the intended access control policy. Unfortunately, due to the potentially large number...

- SOA services still too constrained by applications they representCan we have a collective DUH? :)SOA does not make sense. At lease not as envisioned and promoted. Stateless transactions are pretty limited, both in scope and power.

- SOA services still too constrained by applications they represent
- It almost seemed as if the whole bottom-up versus top-down argument for SOA had been settled, once and for all. The best approach from now on would be bottom-up, with some middle-out, or something like that. None of this "big bang" stuff. Business units will build focused, ROI-generating projects which...

- SIFF: A Stateless Internet Flow Filter to Mitigate DDoS Flooding Attacks
- One of the fundamental limitations of the Internet is the inability of a packet flow recipient to halt disruptive flows before they consume the recipient's network link resources. Critical infrastructures and businesses alike are vulnerable to DoS attacks or flash-crowds that can incapacitate their networks with traffic floods. Unfortunately, current...

- Active Endpoints beefs up visual SOA orchestration with added features and expanded OS support
- ActiveVOS now allows Java objects to maintain state, significantly increasing the number of use cases that can be fulfilled using the POJO capabilities. Previously, developers could reuse POJOs as native web services, providing the ability to invoke stateless Java objects directly from a process. by Dana Gardner

- Where are all the SOA startups? We already know that much of the Class of 2000 has been gobbled up into larger, in many cases, less-SOA-centric, entities. (See list, here.) But where is the next generation of SOA startups coming from? Does such a thing even exist...

- The first generation of fully conformant IEEE 802.16-based networks is being deployed throughout the world. Most of these networks do not support full mobility, due to radio access layer limitations. Newer solutions, based on IEEE 802.16-2005 standard, offer mobility support for subscriber stations. Unfortunately, after quickly changing the point of...
