Director uses a bitmap-based rendering engine, allowing developers to script their content using either Adobe's proprietary Lingo syntax or JavaScript. A myriad of image, audio and video formats are supported by Director, including Flash animations and real-time 3D rendering.
A Macintosh Standard
Introduced as MacroMind Director for the Mac in 1989, Director grew to include authoring and playback support on both Windows and Macintosh systems. It has also become the de facto standard for interactive multimedia content creation. See also Director-class switch.
