(1) A video monitor controlled by a computer circuit that retains settings and resolutions in memory. Subsequent changes in resolutions do not require adjustments. Most computer monitors today are digitally controlled, but still accept analog signals from the display adapter.
(2) A video monitor that accepts a digital signal from the computer and converts it into analog signals to illuminate the screen. Examples are the earlier MDA, CGA and EGA monitors used with PCs. Contrast with analog monitor.
