(2) Dynamically switching video codecs on the fly in order to achieve the greatest amount of compression. The pioneer in this field is Broadcast International, Salt Lake City, UT (www.brin.com) with its CodecSys multi-codec technology. CodecSys uses artificial intelligence to analyze each video frame and compress it with the codec that provides the best compression. The CodecSys approach enables codecs to be created that are highly specialized for a particular scene; for example, water, sky, high-speed vehicles or human faces.
Multi-Codec Technology
CodecSys chooses the best codec on a frame-by-frame basis, which can compress a two-hour movie down to 512MB, compared to 4.7GB with DVD. (Image courtesy of Broadcast International)
