The identity management system built into Windows Vista, which is also available as a download for Windows XP. Microsoft coined the term "identity metasystem" for a global identity architecture for the Internet and designed CardSpace as its Windows implementation. CardSpace is a "card selector," which is the identity metasystem software that resides in the user's computer. For details of CardSpace and the metasystem, see identity metasystem.
