(Remote Desktop Protocol) An input/output presentation protocol from Microsoft that governs the keyboard, mouse and screen formatting between clients and servers in a thin client environment. It is Microsoft's counterpart to Citrix's ICA protocol. Based on the T.share protocol, RDP is used by Windows Terminal Services to provide shared terminal services in Windows servers. In addition to PCs, which use RDP via the Windows Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client software, numerous dedicated thin client terminals support RDP. See thin client and Terminal Services.
