A cellular-to-Wi-Fi converter from Novatel Wireless, Inc. (www.novatelwireless.com) that lets up to five Wi-Fi laptops in the vicinity connect to a cellular carrier's network. Called the first "Intelligent Mobile Hotspot" by the company, the MiFi handheld device obviates the need for an HSPA modem in each laptop. Verizon was the first carrier to offer the MiFi and monthly subscription plans. See Wi-Fi.
