Multicast Address Range
IP multicast packets are identified by using a destination address in a range from 224.0.0.0 to 224.0.0.255. The addresses within the range are reserved for specific purposes. For example, 224.0.0.1 means all nodes on the subnet, while 224.0.0.2 means all routers on the subnet. The address 224.0.0.251 is reserved for multicast DNS (mDNS), which is used to query devices for their capabilities. For the complete list, visit www.iana.org/assignments/multicast-addresses. See DVMRP, MOSPF and PIM.

- Multicast - What Is It?
- When multiple receivers are required to get the same data at approximately the same time, multicast is a more efficient way of delivering data than unicast. A unicast packet has a single source IP address and a single destination IP address. A multicast packet has a single source IP,...

- IPv6 Over IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) Networks: Facts and Challenges
- Deploying the new generation "Internet Protocol" (IPv6) over 802.16-based wireless networks is facing an important challenge as the IEEE 802.16 standard is failing to support IPv6 functionalities. In fact, unlike the other 802 standards, the IEEE 802.16 is based on a Point-to-MultiPoint PMP communication model, where no direct connection (at...
