(1) (Business Objects SA, San Jose, CA, www.businessobjects.com) The leading software company specializing in decision support tools for the business market. Founded in France in 1990 by Bernard Liautaud and Denis Payre, Business Objects was the first to integrate query, reporting and OLAP into one product, using a patented semantic layer that shields end users from the complexities of making a query. Products include its flagship BusinessObjects software, BusinessQuery for Excel and Crystal Reports, which it acquired from Crystal Decisions in 2003.
